Q:
What Makes Us Unique?
A:
Our star qualities...
-
As
far as we know, we are the only destination yoga camp on the
west coast. We are set on 28 acres of pristine nature with beautiful
sunsets, spectacular night skies, and wildlife.
-
We have more than 20 years of camp facilitation experience;
and parents have trusted almost 20,000 youth with us over the
years.
-
Our camp directors understand health education, youth programming,
healthy & tasty nutrition, and motivation.
-
Our staff is comprised of all different types of folks; teachers,
yoga professionals, artists, nature experts, coaches, musicians,
actors, and dancers.
-
Many summer youth camps are either religion-based or sports-based.
We are neither. Our curriculum is based upon fundamental truths
of treating all beings with kindness and respect. Furthermore,
competition arises in our programming only as an optional, playful
addition where appropriate. Everyone is included and honored
for their unique contribution to the whole.
-
We welcome parents and sibling visits and participation during
the week (call for details).
Q:
What is the camp facility like?
A: Our
camp is located on 28 beautiful country acres less than one hour
west of Portland, and three hours from Seattle. The facility has
an outdoor swimming pool, wading creek, 300’ slip’n’slide,
volleyball and basketball courts, walking trails, and a low ropes
challenge course for building confidence and decision-making skills.
Q: What is the Camp food like?
A:
Meals are among our favorite times at camp. Our chefs
will prepare healthy, and very tasty vegetarian cuisine. Each
meal includes many different choices and selections, with ample
protein. There are always great vegetarian dishes, superb salads,
and even desserts. All meals are served buffet style and campers
can take as much as they want, as often as they want.
Q: How do campers communicate with friends and family?
A: We really encourage letter writing. We can also receive
emails, which we distribute with the daily mail. We try to limit
phone usage as much as possible, while still allowing campers
to call home upon request. Cell phones are not allowed at camp.
Q: How is Spirituality addressed at ExplorogaYoga Camp?
A: Spirituality is addressed as a part of yoga; the common
thread that embraces all beings. We value commonalities that run
through all religions, but will not teach nor influence from any
particular religious perspective. All religions are honored. All
spiritual beliefs are honored. All beings are honored and all
campers are encouraged to “do unto others as they would
have done unto themselves”. Spirituality is unique to everyone
and we seek to support the beliefs with which each camper comes
to camp, while being open to the presence of unique perspectives.
Q: What if I want to visit a Camper?
A: Approved visitors may visit at any time, participate
in activities and even spend the night in our family lodging area
(ask us about the details).
